This course provides an overview of some of the most fundamental interdisciplinary topics on the intersection of philosophy & economics. It aims to impart an understanding of the theory of human decision-making, the methodology of economics, the emergence and function of institutions, the moral status of cost/benefit analyses, the function and morality of markets, and the obligations of managers and consumers. This course is divided into three parts. Part I concerns the foundations and limits of rational choice theory. We will also discuss methodological issues, such as the nature and aims of economics as a (social) science. Part II turns to the emergence and nature of informal and formal institutions and how conventions, the law, as well as moral and social norms, shape our economic interactions and behaviour. Part III concerns applied issues, such the moral implications of market failures, why some things should perhaps not be for sale, and the obligations of managers and consumers. https://campusonline.uni-bayreuth.de/ubto/wbLv.wbShowLVDetail?pStpSpNr=285449&pSpracheNr=1 |
