Artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly ubiquitous in our modern lives, from everyday tools such as cleaning robots, Siri, spam filters, and weather forecasts, to more complex systems like self-driving cars and medical diagnosis software. Some experts have even dubbed AI as "the new electricity" due to its pervasive presence in our daily lives. While AI has tremendous potential to improve our lives and make them more convenient, it also presents significant risks and limitations, particularly in the areas of security and privacy.

In this course, we will delve into the central questions surrounding the use of AI, particularly its security and ability to uphold our privacy. We will explore how to ensure that AI systems remain secure as they become increasingly complex, and how to balance the potential benefits of AI with the need to protect personal information and privacy. These topics will be discussed in the context of the summer school "Philosophy & Computer Science" in Bayreuth, with additional two full days of discussions and presentations.

To fully participate in this course, it will be highly beneficial to have previous experience in theoretical philosophy and/or computer science. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of the ethical considerations and challenges of AI, and will be equipped to make informed decisions about its use and development.
