Beschreibung |
|
Economics is partially characterized by its use of abstract, idealized, formal models. These models obviously depart from reality in various ways. What justifies the use of such models, and what makes a model better or worse? What can these models do for us--for example, are they merely conceptual exercises, or can they directly explain real-world phenomena? These questions will be familiar to P&E students from other courses. In this seminar, we will explore the philosophy of modeling in more depth, and compare it more closely to economic practice.
