This seminar introduces students to the field of International Political Economy (IPE), drawing on scholarship from politics, philosophy, and economics. Through a mix of lectures, group discussions, and case studies, students will learn about the causes and consequences of economic globalization, with a focus on trade and financial liberalization. After the seminar, students should be able to answer questions such as: What is economic globalization? Why and to what effect was the World Trade Organization established? What are the distributional consequences of trade agreements? What is the appropriate role of the International Monetary Fund in the world economy? How much autonomy do national governments have in the current era of globalization? And how does International Political Economy help us analyze such questions?
