Beschreibung

This lecture course aims to provide students with a detailed overview of several foundational and methodological issues in the contemporary philosophy of economics. During the course, students will be trained to: clearly present, both in oral and in written form, persuasive and well-structured arguments for or against a given position; integrate complex bodies of information, theories and evidence from philosophy and economics; adopt a self-directed and original approach to the examination of methodological and conceptual issues at the frontier of economic research. By the end of the course, successful students will: demonstrate accurate knowledge of philosophical debates regarding the nature and the pragmatics of economic modelling; master central terminological and conceptual distinctions concerning individual and strategic rationality; acquire a detailed understanding of the criteria underlying the demarcation of the domain of economics and the development of economic generalizations.
