This course is concerned with the usefulness (or otherwise) of thought experiments in philosophical argumentation. We will primarily read papers containing famous thought experiments but we will also look at some work about thought experiments. This includes both theoretical work and empirical research which taps non-philosophers’ reactions to thought experiments (i.e., the area known as ‘experimental philosophy’).
